Hear from Kendra and Skye on the work of Exposure Skate to create an inclusive environment through the power of skateboarding.
Exposure’s youth program, Skate Rising, started in 2016 and combined free skateboarding instruction for girls with mindfulness and community service activities to help facilitate community and compassion along with confidence.
The girls and women who participate in Exposure’s competitions, including those who have become the world’s first women’s skateboarding Olympians, volunteer as instructors at our Skate Rising programs and serve as mentors for the next generation.
Exposure Skate is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering women, girls, trans and nonbinary individuals through skateboarding and teaching compassion through service. They offer a range of classes, camps, retreats, college scholarships and events for all ages which incorporate social and emotional learning through skateboarding, mindfulness and community service.
Cofounded in 2012 by Olympian Amelia Brodka and philanthropist Lesli Cohen at a time during which there were virtually no opportunities for girls to get into or pursue skateboarding. Exposure quickly became the only vehicle in the world for girls and women who wanted to skateboard competitively on either amateur or professional levels.
Together, we aim to amplify Head In The Game’s message, raising awareness of mental health, and ensuring that no one faces the challenges of mental health alone.
